(KPL) Laos hopes to bag 25 medals out of 25 sport events from the upcoming SEA Games 2009 she is hosting, said Mr. Sengphone Phon-amath, Director General of the Lao National Sport Committee, at a press conference held last Thursday.
The 25th SEA Games 2009 Organising Committee disclosed that there would be 684 Lao athletes to compete in 25 sport events. A number of Lao athletes are being trained in foreign countries namely Vietnam, China, South Korea, Mongolia, Japan and Thailand in addition to training in Savannakhet province, the National Sport Centre at Sikeut village, Sikhottabong district, Vientiane Capital, Soksay boxing arena, Dongdok and Houay Hong areas, said Mr. Sengphone.
The Lao athletes are being trained by coaches from China, Vietnam, the Republic of Korea, Japan, Mongolia, Germany, Thailand, Australia, Malaysia and the Democratic People?s Republic of Korea, he continued.The 25 sport events will include Aquatics (Water polo, Diving, Swimming), archery, badminton, billiards-snooker, boxing, cycling, football (women and men), golf, judo, karate-do, sepak takraw, shooting, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball (beach volleyball), weightlifting, wrestling, wushu, fin swimming, traditional boxing ?Mouai?, Pencaksilat, petanque and shuttlecock.
The construction of the national stadium and indoor stadiums for the 25th SEA Games 2009 at Km-16 Saythany district is nearly complete and is expected to be completed on schedule.
