Thapa villagers grow rice and vegetables to support SEA Games

(KPL) Villagers of Thapa village, Hardsaifong district, Vientiane Capital, have a tradition on growing rice and other crops during the rainy season and sell the surplus to markets in Vientiane.

Mr Savatdy Phoudthavong, chief of Thapa, said that the villagers were growing various crops to supply the 25th SEA Games events, scheduled late this year in Laos.Mr Savatdy said that the government and the district administration asked the villagers to grow rice, tomatoes, lettuce, scallion, collard, cabbage, cauliflower and maize.

Thapa village has a total land area of 470 hectares. The villagers grew second season rice on 186 hectares and all the growers had already harvested their second seasonal rice crop.

This village has a population of 1,686 in 357 families, 348 households.
